Margaret Island Budapest
Many of Budapest Citizens and visitors alike enjoy the tranquility that this Islands offers people from the respite of the city. Many people this is perhaps one of Europes finest Parks, while not excessively large it does take about 2 hours to walk around and lies in the middle of the Danube 5 minutes walk from Budapest 5th District.
This island was originally three islands but has since been combined into one larger island. Credit must go to the Hapburs gardeners who planted over 10,000 trees on the island with a beautiful array of tress from all over the world. There are quiet a few things to do and see on the island, There is a swimming pool, a theatre, a zoo, a rose garden and a Japenese garden as well as a garden of statues. It is also here that Janos Arany composed the famous song "Under the Oak tree". In summer the island has in the past hosted Sziget which is one of the largest rock concerts in the world where people culminate for over a week to listen to the some of the worlds best bands. At the north end of the island lies the Famous old Grand Hotel where the terrace is a nice place to sit down, relax and enjoy a hearty lunch albeit at a price.
