Budapest Castle Palace
No other building in Budapest reflects the turbulent history of the Buda District. Building in the latter half of 13th century by Kind Bela IV, after the invasion of the Mongols had been repulsed, centuries of war and subsequent invasion. It was razed to the ground during World War ii, and was later built in baroque style. There is a magnificient stairway which leads to the entrance of the palace. The double middle wing o fthe palace, houses the National Gallery and this is worth the visit with its huge collection of Hungarian paintings and sculpture. To reach the other museums, walk through to the west side of the palace where you will pass Matthias Well whch is regarded as the most beautiful found in Budapest. The west wing houses the National Szechenyi Library with a vast collection of over 2,000,000 books and a huge number of precious manuscrips.
At the south end of the Palace lies the Budapest History Museum where over 2000 years of Budapest city history are presented with a vast Renaissance stone collection. Located in the grounds of the Palace and worth a closer look are the lions that guard the entrance of Oroszlanos Udvar. With their vicious looks, two of these stone animal are not there to discourage visitor, between both these lions there is an elevator which takes you down to the botton the the wing overlooking Budapest and offer great views of Budapest.
